Oh, hope the appointment goes/went well this morning. What you have planned for this evening sounds very sensible. Giving yourself a way out will let you feel a bit safer I'm sure and hopefully more able to enjoy yourself. There's no telling what someone else's reaction will be but I hope it's positive and you know you'll have support there if needed. I suspect this is one of those opportunities for you to stretch those wings and expand your comfort zone a bit. :) Look forward to hearing how it goes.
